MotorolaÕs iTunes phone

A sneak preview of the new iTunes-friendly mobile phone was given yesterday to select CEOs at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The new mobile phone syncs with the computer and the iTunes Music Store, just like an iPod does. The new phone also has an iPod interface for navigation through its music collection.

Motorola executive Ron Garriques also noted that the phone that was demoed was the Òfirst of manyÓ to be seen in 2005.

Convergence is a major issue with consumer electronics these days and Garriques believes that the new phone is converged around people. Garriques cited 10 to 16 year old girls as the main driving force behind converging technologies:

ÒThey want to be connected all of the time to the Internet, to music, to their friends. Motorola's 'seamless mobility' vision meets their needs, as ultimately this will be capable of moving between networks and devices seamlessly, for always-on access to digital content and communication, it seems.Ó

It is anticipated that new phone will be announced next week at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco and will ship early this year.
