According to a Japanese newspaper Apple is planning to launch a digital music download service in Japan by March 2005.
Them same newspaper story also reported that Apple intends to offer more then 100,000 songs, with and emphasis on Japanese music. This report was not confirmed by Apple Japan.
There are currently nine different download services in Japan, however the iPod currently accounts for 50 percent of the Japanese digital music player market. This will most likely help Apple with a quick adoption of its proposed digital music service. If Apple can also work out a way with record companies to sell individual songs lower then 100 yen ($3.84 per song) that too will help the new digital music service, as the cheapest price per song is currently at that price point.
