Stereobelt inventor wants piece of iPod

The man who originally patented the ÒstereobeltÓ back in the 1970s is looking to sue Apple because of the iPod.

In 1978 Andreas Pavel patented the concept of a small portable music player that could be clipped to a handbag or belt which would produce sound to be played through headphones. None of PavelÕs prototypes ever made it to the market but Sony released the walkman two years later and Pavel later sued in 1993 and 1996 and lost both cases.

Only recently, after 25 years, has Sony settled up with Pavel to the tune of several million euros and in a Òfriendly manner.Ó

Now Pavel wants to sue Apple for the iPod however he maybe to late. Patents are only good for 20 years and Apple didnÕt release the iPod until 2001, 23 years after the patent was filed.
